About Lakhani Law
Family Law Lawyer in Markham, ON
Our mission is to assist individuals and families with compassion and integrity, without compromise on results, as you transition through some of life’s most challenging moments. This includes divorce, separation, custody/access disputes and even the delicate task of negotiating prenuptial agreements (domestic contracts in Canada). And although the children are not our “clients”, they are our priority, as we know they are yours. We indirectly advocate for each child during a time where even those that love them the most don’t always know how to shield them from conflict.
Every family is different. There is no solution that fits all. At Lakhani Law, we want to know who you are, what you really need and then give you the information necessary to make informed choices about how best to address those needs. We have the skills and experience to guide you through any process option including traditional negotiation, collaborative law, mediation and arbitration. And while we do everything we can to help your family avoid the cost and stress of going to court, if you find yourself there, we will help you find your way out - early, effectively and peacefully.
Whether you need us to speak for you, or be beside you, our goal is to help you get through this chapter, and on to your next, as smoothly and cost-effectively as possible.
We see better days ahead for you – allow us to help you get there.
RADHIKA LAKHANI - FOCUSED ON WHAT MATTERS
Radhika Lakhani is a proud mom of two little guys, who she affectionately refers to as “Batman and Robin”.
This, by far, has been her most rewarding experience to date.
Being a mother has also given her legal practice an important angle as a lawyer who has exclusively practiced family law since 2008, and since 2005 as a law student.
Radhika’s other passion is being able to support and advocate for individuals through some of life’s most challenging times. Nothing is more important that family and financial peace. Radhika brings clarity and peace of mind to those whose families are in transition by providing critical information, emotional support and experienced guidance. For each client, she taps into her years of legal, and life, experience – both equally valuable to those she serves.
What matters most to Radhika are her relationships with her clients and their happiness (and where there are children involved, their happiness). While at times the future can appear daunting, Radhika keeps her eyes on the light that she sees at the end of the tunnel and uses her vast knowledge and experience to get you there, staying with you every step of the way.
Even prior to law school and obtaining her Masters in Law, Radhika received a Certificate in Dispute Resolution (2002 - York University). This training in mediation and negotiation informed every aspect of her legal training and hence the advice she is able to provide to her clients. A mediator at heart, she focuses on what makes each party “tick” and is able to see both sides of the story, often allowing her to bridge broad gaps and reach settlement for her client’s faster.
During law school, Radhika channeled her interest in mediation and founded The ADR Project, a program designed to provide law students with hands-on mediation experience while also serving the surrounding community pro-bono (https://www.canadianlawyermag.com/article/lets-talk-it-over-1137). This initiative led by Radhika continues to be a clinical program at the law school, now known as the Osgoode Mediation Intensive Program. Radhika has guest-lectured at this program, as well as at DeGroote School of Business (McMaster University) and has provided coaching in the field of Dispute Resolution for institutional clients.
Radhika started her own practice in 2010 after training under some of Canada’s most highly regarded family law experts, at downtown Toronto firms. Most recently, Radhika was one of nine family lawyers to launch the premier and collaboratively focused York Family Law Chambers, which opened its doors on October 1, 2017.
In the little spare time she may have as a working mom of two (!) she loves to dabble in interior design, dance, meditation and travel.
